As a result of this there are many forms of tree legislation, training schemes, equipment and the British Standards Institution, our company carries out all tree works to British Standards 3998.
Scots Pine (Pinus Sylvestris)
Britains only native pine tree is also the most widely spread of all European conifers, found growing in Scandinavia and also in southern Spain. A pioneer species, which can thrive in poor soil, it is a long-lived tree capable of reaching 250-300 years in age. Despite being a tall tree it has a narrow trunk, which in mature trees can be just over 2.5m wide. It is a keystone species in Scotland, proving a home for many plants, insects, birds and animals, such as the rare red squirrel. its naturally resin-rich timber is resistant to decay and widely used in building. Traditionally, its tall, straight, flexible trunks were valued for masts and spars, while the Vikings used its leaves as a valuable source of Vitamin C, drinking pine beers to ward off scurvy.
